How to prepare a studio photo and video project for your brand

A studio session works best when every image has a purpose. Before choosing a set, start with where you’ll publish the content and the message you want it to convey.

Define how you’ll use the content

Online shop photography, professional portraits and social media clips have different requirements. Explain where they’ll appear, which orientations you need and whether you want clear space for headlines or graphics.

Bring visual references, not just adjectives

A few examples of lighting, colour and composition make the discussion more concrete. Explain what you like about each reference and what doesn’t fit your brand. The aim is to agree on a shared direction, not to copy another project.

Prepare your products and outfits

Check surfaces, labels and packaging. For portraits, choose clean, comfortable outfits that suit your audience. If you have several options, send preparation photos and decide with the team what to bring to the session.

Agree on a deliverables list

Separate product images, atmospheric shots, portraits and video sequences. For each, note the approximate quantity, format and priority. This helps you estimate shooting and editing time realistically.

Finish the brief with practical details

  • Who approves the visual direction.
  • The list of products and participants.
  • Publishing formats and channels.
  • Your preferred deadline and feedback process.

These details make the quote discussion clear: what we’re producing, who it’s for and what the project needs to deliver.
